Nonprofit Information Expansion Program
Information provided directly by nonprofit organizations puts their financial data into context, presenting well-rounded pictures of the organizations.
Giving Nonprofits a Voice
The Nonprofit Information Expansion Program (NIEP) urges nonprofits to take advantage of GuideStar's on-line platform to provide first-hand information about their missions, programs, goals, and more. Nonprofits participate at no charge, reaping the benefits of GuideStar's heavy Web traffic to connect with potential donors and grantmakers and to keep current contributors updated on programs and progress. The program gives all organizations, no matter how small, an opportunity to market themselves to the public.
Spreading the Word
GuideStar's team of Nonprofit Services representatives manage outreach efforts to encourage participation via speaking engagements, conference exhibitions, newsletter advertising, and collaborations with grantmakers. Nonprofit Services staff communicates directly with participating nonprofits to verify their information and to remind organizations to update their profiles when necessary. GuideStar needs your support to continue offering this valuable service to all nonprofits at no cost to the organizations.
As a Grantmaker, Your Encouragement Makes a Difference
In addition to monetary support, you can also support the NIEP by encouraging the organizations you collaborate with to update their GuideStar profiles. Many foundations now require applicants to complete a GuideStar Information Form as a condition of receiving a grant. One funder in Pennsylvania even encourages nonprofits to update their GuideStar Reports with a printed reminder on their grant check stubs. The additional information these organizations add to the database helps not only you but provides increased visibility for the organizations and becomes a valuable resource for all GuideStar users.
